A shattered reality the cosmos only recalls in fragments
Wars waged between realms that were never meant to cross
Millennia of conflict settled in devastating battles
What is Xen’Schet?
Xen’schet is a dark fantasy passion project of mine. Since its inception in 2012, I’ve written, and lost, hundreds of pages about it, including an attempt at writing the first novel of what would have been a three novel series. It’s been a safe space for me all this time, something I think about when I need a comforting thought.
When I began writing horror, I was content to let Xen’Schet remain as a memory. I didn’t think myself capable of telling a fantasy story, not with all the detail and nuance required of such a thing. When I begin a project, I find catharsis in the end result, going against everything we’ve ever been told about journeys mattering more than destinations. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the journey as well, but without finality, without a finish line in sight, whatever passion i had when I first set off fizzles away, and I refuse to come to hate something I initially loved so much.
It’s for that reason I’ve settled on an approach far removed than anything I’ve ever done before. I may not have it in me to write a 120,000 word novel, but I know I can write 120 different 1,000 word pieces. Wherever my mind happens to be at the time is the piece you’ll get, and when all is said and done, the story will be there for you. All you’ll have to do is rearrange the pieces.
Fragments and Compendiums
Xen’Schet is broken up into two primary categories: fragments and compendiums. Fragments are pieces of the overarching story, recollections of what happened at any given point in time. Compendiums are collections of fragments pertaining to specific events, individuals, or groups. If something in a fragment interests you, then there’ll more than likely be a compendium with more entries about it.
